Residential Clogged Drain and Clogged Sewer Services

Clogged drains and sewer are an unexpected nuisance! They can interfere with your routine by slowing down daily tasks, and when all is said and done, leave messy residue behind. If your pipes have been neglected, they can be lined with years of buildup from hair and rust to grease and harsh minerals causing hazardous corrosion and damage to your pipes.

CityWide Sewer & Drain will get to the bottom of your clogged drain or Sewer and have you back up and running in no time!  We accommodate your schedule by providing 24-hour emergency service all over Long Island and New York Metropolitan Area. With CityWide, you can rest assured that you’ll know the price before we start the job, and, unlike some of our competitors, we DON’T charge extra for drain problems during evenings or weekends. Best of all, our quality workmanship is guaranteed.

Not sure if you have a clog? Keep a lookout for the following signs and give our plumbing technicians a call if you notice any of them. (Acting quickly can help you to prevent a major clog or backup.)

Signs of a Clogged Drain

  • Water begins to back up out of a sink drain.
  • Water begins to pool around shower drains.
  • Toilet water bubbles when you run the sink.
  • Foul odor comes from the kitchen sink area.
  • Drains ‘gurgle’ after running the washing machine or dishwasher.
  • Sewage odors emanating from one or more drains are a sign of a clogged sewer drain.
  • Water pools on the floor close to the bathtub or sink.

Can Toilet Paper Clog a Sewer Line?

Unfortunately, toilet paper can clog sewer lines. Generally, this only happens if you:
Use extra-thick toilet paper that your system cannot easily process
Use an excessive amount of toilet paper with each flush
In addition to toilet paper getting wadded up in your sewer line, items like “flushable” wipes (not really flushable) and feminine hygiene products can easily become a problem. It’s safest to stick to toilet paper and waste when flushing and throw everything else away.

What You Can Do About a Clogged Drain

Try and clear a clogged drain by turning on the faucet until the sink is partly filled with water. If you have a clogged double kitchen sink, use a wet rag to plug one of the drains. If your clog is in a bathroom sink, be sure to cover the overflow hole. Next, use a cup plunger to start plunging the open drain. Work it up and down, then pull to remove, then repeat the process several times.

If only one drain is problematic, turn off the shutoff valve specific to that fixture. If you find yourself facing a drain emergency such as a major water leak, we recommend turning off the main shutoff valve in your home.

If any of these options overwhelm you or you lack confidence in making plumbing decisions, not to worry! Simply call upon the plumbing professionals at CityWide Sewer & Drain, that’s what we’re here for.
